Connecting Mind, Body, & Soul for Self-Healing
Body: Yoga
Registered yoga teacher RYT 200, Katy Newton, will illuminate the connection to spiritual healing through body movement; relaxing the body and mind’s fight or flight response to trauma, stress, and anxiety to obtain balance and harmony.
Katy specializes in teaching Vinyasa flow, which incorporates creative flow sequences, fun and challenging asanas, including arm balances and inversions into her classes. Katy's teaching experience is rooted in community connection and inclusivity. Having taught largely for community based, nonprofit organizations such as YMCA, Indy Parks and Rec and Big Car Collaborative, Katy is able to create an atmosphere that welcomes diversity and all skill levels.
Katy's imaginative use of music is an important part of her teaching style. The style of music is intuitively timed to fit the changing tempo of the flow, helping students feel energized, inspired and refreshed. Katy holds a Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. She works full time in community mental health at Hamilton Center, Inc. and part time as an artist and fashion designer at Ruckus Makerspace.
Katy is a consummate upcycler, dog lover and ping pong fanatic. She is the mother to Jude, a 5th grader at McClelland Elementary and the wife to Ryan, an all around cool dude. Katy's mission is to help humankind improve their lives and overcome obstacles through the realization and development of their innate creative potential.
Katy Newton has been teaching yoga for 8+ years. She received her certification from Peace Through Yoga, at the Peace Learning Center of Eagle Creek park in 2014.
