Studies have shown that meditation has multiple physical and mental benefits including – reduce stress and anxiety, enhance cognitive abilities, minimize symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, improve sleep quality, and more. In today’s blog, we’ll delve more deeply into what meditation is and its benefits as well as how you can get started today practicing meditation.
What is Meditation and What are the Benefits?
Meditation is a practice that involves focusing your attention on a particular object, thought, or activity to achieve a state of mental clarity and emotional calmness. It is an ancient technique that has been used for thousands of years by different cultures and traditions around the world.
During meditation, the goal is to quiet the mind and bring your attention to the present moment, allowing you to observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment. By doing so, you can develop a greater sense of self-awareness and cultivate a more positive outlook on life.
There are many different types of meditation, including mindfulness, mantra (repeated word or phrase), and visualization. Each type has its own unique focus and techniques, but they all share the goal of promoting inner peace, relaxation, and mental clarity.
A few benefits of meditation include –
Reducing Stress and Anxiety
Meditation helps to reduce the production of stress hormones like cortisol to lower blood pressure which leads to a feeling of relaxation and calmness.
Improving Mental Health
Regular meditative practices help manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder through improving self-esteem and emotional well-being through self-awareness.
Enhancing Cognitive Abilities
Meditation can improve focus, concentration, memory, and creativity. It can also increase mental clarity and cognitive flexibility.
Improving Sleep Quality
Meditation helps to reduce insomnia and improve the quality of sleep, leading to greater energy and vitality throughout the day.
Decreasing Pain and Inflammation
Meditation has been shown to reduce pain and inflammation, particularly in those with chronic pain and arthritis.
With regular meditation practice, you will soon notice the benefits of meditation in your daily life.
Guided and Unguided Meditation
Beginning a regular meditation practice is actually quite simple and there are not a lot of rules of how to meditate properly as some might think. If you’re an absolute beginner, that’s okay! You might start with guided meditations for an introduction to the process and develop the daily habit. There are plenty of free meditation apps and videos online to explore to find a guided meditation to lead you through a session.
Or, perhaps, you’re ready to dive right in and get started with meditating. You can absolutely begin through the practice of unguided meditation, also known as silent meditation or self-guided meditation. Unguided meditation involves sitting in silence and focusing on your breath or a mantra without any external guidance. This type of meditation allows for more freedom and flexibility in your practice. It can also be helpful for developing your own meditation style and deepening your focus and awareness.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to meditating, whether unguided or guided meditation is best for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. Some may prefer the freedom and challenge of unguided meditation, while others may find guided meditation to be more helpful in achieving their meditation goals. Try both types of meditation and see which one works best for you.
How Do I Get Started with Unguided Meditation?
Starting a silent meditation or unguided meditation practice can be a wonderful way to bring more peace, clarity, and focus into your life. Here are some easy steps to get you started:
Choose a Quiet, Comfortable Place
Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can sit undisturbed for at least 10 to 15 minutes. This might be a corner in your favorite room, a peaceful garden, or any other place where you feel calm and relaxed.
Sit Comfortably
Sit on a cushion, chair, or the floor with your back straight and your hands resting in your lap or on your knees. You can also use a cushion to elevate your hips and ensure that your knees are lower than your hips, which will help you sit with a straight spine.
Focus on Your Breath
Focus your attention on your breathing. You can take a few deep breaths to start and then let your breath become natural. Bring your attention to the sensation of the breath moving in and out of your body.
Notice Your Thoughts
As you focus on your breath, you'll likely notice thoughts arising. This is normal. Don't try to push them away, but simply observe them and then gently bring your attention back to your breath.
Practice Regularly
Set aside a regular time to practice each day, even if it's just for a few minutes. Consistency is key to building a meditation practice.
Remember, meditation is a practice, so be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Through regular meditation practice, you too will experience all of the benefits leading to a happier, healthier you; well on your way to healing from spiritual injury and trauma.

Making Friends
Today, I will pay attention to my thoughts, ideas, and attitudes when initiating friendships. I will remain open and receptive to all positive individuals who are drawn to me. Rather than wondering which role they will play in my life or how long they will stay, instead I will release the outcome to the divine will and trust the God of my understanding to guide my instincts as I navigate the connection.
We are each a unique expression of the Source, creator of all things. Just as the other creatures have something unique to offer the world so do you. Focus on your goals today and allow the universe to bring the divine connections that feed positivity to your spirit.
By staying in the present moment, you are available to receive the answers you seek. You are able to give and do your absolute best when you are able to live one day at a time. One day at a time problems are reduced, and progress is recognized.
As you move about your day stand strong in your ability to multitask and respond appropriately to situations, circumstances, and events that may come your way! You are blessed beyond measure and have no need for low vibrations nor those who bring them.
Raise your vibrations NOW:
Think of something for which you are grateful.
Clap your hands as you say out loud, “I am grateful for....” and “for...” and ... (keep clapping as you feel the gratitude fill your insides)!!!
Go to the mirror and high five yourself (use your compact, rear-view mirror, camera...whatever you have handy) look yourself in the face, smile, and tell yourself, “.... I love you and I am grateful that you didn’t give up!!
Now, CELEBRATE your smart, brilliant, expansive, badass, beautiful, and loving self!!!
Affirming Thought: If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
May you have a day filled with joy and laughter.
In Divine Alignment,
